Riverdale Season 4

It was NOT as bad as Youtube's out of context clips made it look. It's still got the cringy wannabe Gossip Girl dialogue. It's still got 18 year old Veronica owning a bar and running a rum business with Cheryl out of Cheryl's mom's old bordello. I suppose *technically* that's legal, 18 year olds are allowed to serve/sell alcohol in most states, as long as they're not drinking it.

But if Veronica thought showing the Yale recruiter the bar she owns and doing a floor show for the crowd would impress, she might not be as mature as she thinks she is (Narrator: She was not...)

Still has a frigging musical episode for some reason.

They reference 21C pop culture and have smart phones, but the houses all still have those old boxy tv sets (and landlines yes, but ones that look like they're from forty years ago) and everyone apparently has a VCR. It's an aesthetic, guess we go with it.

Most high school clubs and teams are required to have a faculty advisor. Who else unlocks the classroom and pays for the bus and hotel on away trips? In RL, students usually aren't allowed to remain on campus after a certain time unless there's an adult present. In fact, the adult chaperone will usually refuse to leave until they've made sure all the students are cleared of the building. Groups can have kids as young as 14...You need a grownup present. And I think specifically for a sports team, having an adult there is an insurance issue. So having a cheerleading coach is a perfectly normal thing and why did they not have one already?

Because the MCs parents are all kind of bad at parenting unless their name is Andrews? And they were more concerned about the cancellation of Prom than if their daughters get killed in dangerous stunts?

That scene where Sheriff Jones commits police brutality to get a suspect to talk is NOT going to age well. It doesn't matter if the victim was a smug rich white bully who really hurt people, the rules are the same for everyone or we might as well not have them. Remember the only person Sheriff Jones answers to is Hiram Lodge. They need to revisit this with consequences later or all of their woke posturing is for nothing.

Hedwig is something I would have liked a few years ago and would probably enjoy now. But like Hamilton, it's a show right up my alley I've still never bothered to see. Can't explain why.

And yet I still also think Kevin's speech was stupid and Principal Honey was right to not let them do the show. Cheryl and the cheerleaders showing up to do a sexy song and dance for their principal to convince him otherwise is a sexual misconduct lawsuit waiting to happen. Especially because he didn't shut it down. Doesn't even matter if they were all 18, they're his students and they danced for him to get something they wanted. Quid Pro Quo Sexual Harassment!, as the Legal Eagle would say.

OH...Mr. Honey also likes to rent porn videos from a place that happens to offer a sex tape starring two of his students. 1) They're literal VHS tapes, trust Riverdale to be the only place left in America where you can rent VHS porn 2) Jughead found this out from Ethel, who apparently also likes "weird dark" porn. It all makes more sense now, I guess.

Except that the kids didn't know he was a creep when they started harassing him with pranks for attempting to enforce his authority. Or is his porn habit part of the short story Jughead was writing for his college application? The uh, story where they all kidnap and murder Mr. Honey? I'm confused.

Mr. Honey quits for Stonewall Prep (in the "real world"). The school secretary calls them all out on it with evidence that Mr. Honey only ever meant well, including giving Jughead a college recommendation letter from him. Ooops.

I hope they all grow up a little after that. I kind of get it. They've had trauma on trauma, but their brains haven't finished developing, so they react with teenage logic. They created an enemy in their minds. Surprisingly mature and layered conclusion, a sign that perhaps the writing will move on from depending on teenage logic to move plots forward.

Wait, what happened to the crazy drifter who tried to attack Veronica at Pop's in the Halloween ep? Was that resolved during one of those times I dozed off? (this show is def never boring, I just don't feel well)
