But every adaptation ever ignores the fact that Mary and James had some legitimate older siblings, at least one of whom was also named James, because those people are mostly superfluous. But that means that I don't have to explain why Male Mary is not named "James", just like Male Elizabeth is not named "Henry" because he has an older brother who got that dubious honor.

I'm not sure how to write Male Liz yet, but he's coming up v.v soon You have to strike this odd balance between someone who is ruthless and kind of awful but also a vulnerable woobie who you want to succeed.

I'm still totally going to brainstorm this Reign fic, just *mostly* not in public Tumblr posts. I can't not make long, complicated notes, because I am faced with quite a lot of worldbuilding and research. And I *am* going to research this, for once I don't want anyone to have complaints (and the fic will include copious links and references and explanations of where I chose to diverge).
